Humans of Atholton

In honor of a week full of snow days❄️❄️❄️ Question: What is your favorite memory from a snow day off? ☃️ Autumn: We went to our sledding hill with our close friends from the neighborhood for everyday of the week. Every single day at this hill, we found out that there would be no school the next day. We were relieved that we would have no school and could spend time together the next day. ☃️ Comment down below if you have any memories like this, maybe even some from this week!
Question of the day: What's something you're really proud of? ✨✨✨ "My grandfather- well I don't know if I'd say I'm proud- I guess I'm proud of myself. My grandfather was choking once, and I did the what's it called? I forget, but I helped him stop choking. I've always wanted to work in the medical field. I want to be a travelling nurse, where they give you a place, like let's say Hawaii, and you go there for a couple of months. They pay for your rental car or plane ticket, and housing expenses."
Question of the Day: What’s your best crab memory?🦀 “This past summer, my mom, my brother, his girlfriend, her parents, and I went to this restaurant in Baltimore and we had crabs til our hearts were content. And then we walked along the water and watched the sunset and had slushies together and it was amazing. I got to spend time with my family and really embrace the Maryland culture!”
The scariest thing I've ever done was competing drill. It was a weird experience. It was my first time competing for my school. I didn't know what to expect, I was kinda nervous. That was probably the scariest thing. It was so new to me. I just decided [to join JROTC] to last year. Anyone whose in it is lucky because it's a really good experience for you.
"I did Girls on the Run when when I was in fourth and fifth grade. After the adrenaline, it makes you feel really good. I think it was fun, and it was really good for self esteem and making friends. There were high schoolers who volunteered there as coaches, I want to do that."
“The movie Dope is underrated. It’s about these nerdy kids in the projects who want to get into Harvard. But, they get integrated into the gang lives that they don’t want to—they have to sell molly and stuff. The main character has to write a college essay for Harvard, and at the end of the essay he talks about his whole demographic. He says, ‘Imagine two people. Imagine a kid who gets straight A’s, is all honors classes, and gets perfect SAT scores. Then, also imagine a kid who lives in the projects who got integrated into the gang life and has to deal with gangs everyday. Now, look at me, which one do you think I am? What if I told you if I’m both. Also, would you ask the same question if I’m white?’ The movie is funny but it also makes you think."
"I started doing magic a little over a year ago. I got into it just randomly to be honest. Since I usually carry a pack of cards with me to play cards with friends, I figured I'd give the cards another purpose: magic. My favorite part is the reactions. If they are truly amazed by the supposed “magic,” it's nice to see that practice paid off. They’re pretty funny to watch. The reactions where they're practically speechless from amazement is what I look for. It shows I did the trick well enough so that they couldn't keep track of what just happened. The best is probably when people physically jump, yell, or claim it’s a form of black magic. It's pretty funny to see that. Of course, I'm still quite a beginner. I have a lot to learn and practice, but people always tend to want to see more magic so that's motivation to learn different tricks."
"The first time I went on a roller coaster was at Kings Dominion last summer with my whole eighth grade class. I was scared at first, but I laughed a lot. Ever since, I’ve loved them."
“This past weekend I had a food fight with my kids. My daughter just turned six, so we had her party this past weekend, so after she cut the cake, I initiated it. We’ve had one twice this year–a full on cake-in-the-face. It’s always my fault. I start it, and then they fight, and then my husband yells at them because he doesn’t realize that I started it. It’s fun. Being a parent is amazing. It’s the best thing in the world. It’s every cliche in the book. This is going to be so corny, but the day I would relive would be the day that we took my kids to Disney, and they were just so excited. Everything was really magical and real to them. We went on The Little Mermaid ride 72 times. It was awful, but wonderful all at the same time."
