American culture values freedom above all else. We hold dearly the freedom to speak, to worship, and to own private property. Perhaps the most important democratic freedom is our freedom to vote. As we currently interpret it, this implies a freedom not to vote. But should it?
Many young people assume Shakespearean plays are boring, unfamiliar, and difficult to understand. However, when teenagers are exposed to Shakespeare’s works in interesting, interactive ways, they may find that his works are still accessible and relatable to the youth of today.
On Wednesday May 2, 2017, the Atholton Media Center transformed into a laid-back, mellow coffeehouse environment full of poetry, music, and calming snaps from the audience. With the help of Poetry Club and National English Honor Society (NEHS), Atholton’s annual Poetry Night extravaganza was a success.
